Introduction

What is a Neck Lift?

A Lower Rhytidectomy, commonly referred to as a Neck Lift, is a plastic surgery procedure that trims excess skin from the jawline and neck, then redraping the remainder of the skin across the neck area in such a way to make it tighter and smooth. The surgeon makes the incision near the ears so that any scars can easily be hidden. Some surgeons may also use liposuction to eliminate other excess fat deposits in the neck vicinity, depending on the type of neck lift you opt for. Liposuction is considered the least invasive option. People who typically have success with liposuction are young with flexible skin and some pockets of fat under the neck.

Deep Plane Neck Lift

A Deep Plane Neck Lift will sculpt and refine your neck’s contours for a firmer appearance. This technique lifts and manipulates the layers of your neck (skin, muscle, fat, glands, and connective tissue) to achieve a smoother definition for an elegant profile.

During your procedure, Dr. Cohn will make a single 1-inch incision that is hidden beneath your chin. Through this incision, he will lift the layers of your neck and make the necessary contouring to give your neck and jawline a more youthful appearance.

First Steps

What’s the first step?

If you are ready to get started on your journey, we invite you to first call our clinic in Long Island to schedule a consultation. Our patient coordinators will book a session with you and Dr. Cohn, where you will learn about the specifics of the surgery, the techniques he uses, and what you can expect from the recovery period. The consultation is a great time to share your reasons for seeking a neck lift, what you hope to achieve at the end, and any aspects you might be nervous about. Dr. Cohn is an expert at putting patients’ minds at ease as they make their decisions.

Once you have been determined as a qualifying candidate, you can then schedule your surgical appointment with the coordinator.

What to expect on the day of Neck Lift surgery

Before your scheduled appointment, Dr. Cohn and his team will share information about how to prepare for surgery. This can include wearing loose clothing that does not restrict the neck or shoulders, avoiding blood thinners, and fasting for a certain amount of time if Dr. Cohn deems it necessary.

When you arrive at our inviting boutique clinic in Long Island, our friendly staff will get you settled while you are prepped for surgery. You must remove any jewelry from the face, ears and neck. Dr. Cohn will explain the techniques he will be using and mark out the incision sites.

Next, anesthesia will be given to minimize discomfort and any pain. This is the first step in any plastic surgery procedure.

As you become comfortably sedated, Dr. Cohn will begin by making the incisions in the areas specified during your consultation. The placement of incisions are determined by how much skin needs to be trimmed away and the degree of skin tightening you are looking for.

When choosing liposuction, Dr. Cohn will make a small incision behind each ear and under the chin. Specialized equipment suctions fat from the jaw line and beneath the chin. Liposuction has the ability to give you a more defined neck, however it cannot correct structural problems that impact your neck’s appearance.

For a traditional neck lift, the incision will begin near the sideburns and ears. This incision makes it possible to view the tissues that shape the neck. The skin then is put back over these tissues in a way that looks more pleasing.

A Deep plane neck lift involves an incision under the chin and one in front of the ear and along the hairline. These incisions let the surgeon work on the deep structural tissues of the neck and lower face. Excess skin also can be removed.

When the skin has been redraped and Dr. Cohn is satisfied with its placement, he will close the incisions and apply bandages to your face and neck area. As this completes your surgery, we will take you to a dedicated recovery area as you wake up from the anesthesia.

Neck Lift Recovery

Before you leave our clinic, we will meticulously explain what to expect from the recovery period, how to take care of the incisions, and the timeline of healing and results to keep in mind. We also require patients to arrange transportation to and from our clinic as you will need ample time to rest after this major procedure.

If he deems it necessary, Dr. Cohn may place a thin tube at the incision sites to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect under the skin.

During the recovery period, you will need to keep your head and neck as elevated as possible to prevent major swelling or impairing the incisions. A supportive U-shaped neck pillow can help keep your head in place during the day and while you sleep, to avoid twisting the neck.

Taking time off work and avoiding all strenuous activity for a time is strongly advised, giving yourself adequate time to heal. You will likely feel some mild to moderate pain and minor swelling after surgery. Dr. Cohn will let you know the best remedies to alleviate pain so you don’t compromise your healing in any way.

Necklift Cost

How much does a Neck Lift cost in Long Island, NY?

The cost of a Neck Lift in Long Island is based on a variety of factors, which will be discussed and assessed in your consultation:

  • The type of neck lift (deep plane, traditional)
  • Where the incisions need to be made
  • The amount of excess skin needing to be trimmed
  • Whether Dr. Cohn uses liposuction as part of your procedure.

Once Dr. Cohn is confident in assessing these factors, you will be connected once again with our patient coordinator who will let you know your final price, and help you book your surgical appointment.
