The Basics

What is a facelift?

A facelift, also known by its medical term rhytidectomy, is a procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the face and upper neck. A variety of factors can impact the contour on your face, including thinning of the skin, loss of facial fat, gravity, sun damage, smoking, as well as heredity, and stress. It is important to note that a facelift does not change your fundamental appearance and cannot stop the aging process, but it can rejuvenate your appearance by tightening your skin and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. The following is a description of the different types of facelift options Dr. Cohn offers:

Mini-Facelift

The mini facelift addresses more superficial skin-related issues with facial aging, such as sagging and wrinkles, as with a regular Facelift. This has become an increasingly popular option for many patients in recent years.

A mini facelift smooths out wrinkles in the skin on the face and neck and improves its texture. This option is a minimally invasive procedure that is a modified version of a full facelift.

It involves less cutting of the underlying tissue. Because of this, patients see less scarring and experience a quicker recovery time. This option may require further surgical enhancements down the road, but it is a great starter option for someone who is considering a facelift for the first time.

Deep Plane Facelift

A deep plane facelift is a surgical procedure that involves the release of the four ligaments that connect the deep plane layer of your facial anatomy. This enables tension-free movement and avoids that “pulled” or “stretched” look you may be familiar with regarding traditional facelift procedures. The recovery time is longer than a mini facelift. The results of a deep plane facelift are long-lasting.

Who are the best candidates for the Facelift procedure?

Each patient pursuing a Facelift in New York must so for themselves. Improving your appearance is personal and should not be done to please others. Here are some of the attributes Dr. Cohn looks for when assessing potential facelift patients:

  • Healthy individuals who do not have medical conditions that impair healing
  • Nonsmokers
  • Individuals with a positive outlook and realistic expectations
  • People struggling with aging issues that can be rectified by a facelift
  • Individuals with no major medical issues that could be affected by surgery

To discover if you are a good candidate for a Facelift, call our clinic today and schedule a consultation with Dr. Cohn.

What are the benefits of a Facelift?

There are many benefits to getting a Facelift in New York. Here are some issues a Facelift can address:

  • Excess skin at the lower jawline
  • Deep skin folds from the sides of the nose to the corner of the mouth
  • Relaxation of the skin of the face causing sagging
  • Fat that has fallen or has disappeared
  • Jowls developing in the cheeks and jaw
  • Loose skin and excess fat that can appear as a double chin

A Facelift is not a cure for aging, but it can effectively and safely restore a youthful look to your skin and face. To learn more about the benefits and impact of a Facelift, call our clinic today to schedule a consultation.

First Steps

What’s the first step?

The first step to getting a Facelift on Long Island is to book a consultation with Dr. Cohn. You can call us or contact us on our website. Our patient coordinators are ready to help you and get you started on your journey. During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to learn more about what a facelift involves and decide whether this is the right procedure for you.

Once the two of you agree that this procedure is right for you, Dr. Cohn will create your customized treatment plan. Our Patient Coordinator will then be able to help you schedule your surgical date. Before the day of your surgery, Dr. Cohn will give you a list of instructions to prepare you for surgery. This can include which medications to avoid and potentially fasting for a specific period.

What to expect on the day of Facelift surgery

Arriving at our clinic for your Long Island Facelift, you can be assured that your comfort and satisfaction are our top priority. As you are prepped for surgery Dr. Cohn will walk you through the steps of the procedure as outlined in the consultation session.

First, anesthesia will be administered to minimize pain and discomfort. If you have any concerns about anesthesia, you must discuss this with Dr. Cohn during your consultation so he can put your mind at ease.

After the anesthesia has set in, Dr. Cohn will make the incision. This will differ based on the type of facelift you are opting for. Here is a guide to where the incisions are made on the various Facelift options we offer:

  • A traditional face-lift incision starts at your temples in the hairline. It continues down and around the front of the ears. It ends behind the ears in the lower scalp. Dr. Cohn may decide to make an incision under the chin which can help improve the appearance of your neck.
  • The incision for a mini facelift incision commonly starts at the front of the ear, following the natural skin crease separating the cartilage part of the upper ear from your facial skin. The incision then follows the curvature of the ear which allows it to be well hidden in the natural folds of your ear and face.
  • For a Deep Plane Facelift, incisions are typically made in the hairline and around the ear. Incisions from a deep plane facelift are also strategically placed to minimize scarring and visibility.

After Dr. Cohn has made the incision, the underlying facial muscles are tightened and the remaining facial skin is repositioned over the contours of the face to create a new look.

The surgery will be completed when Dr. Cohn closes the incisions using either sutures or glue, which he will determine before your appointment. A Long Island Facelift typically takes 3 to 6 hours in one appointment, and you will be able to return home the same day.

Facelift Recovery

Before you leave our clinic, Dr. Cohn and his team will ensure you have all the information and materials needed to start your recovery process. It might be a good idea to arrange transportation to and from our clinic as you will be in a delicate state after surgery, and need assistance.

Following completion of your facelift, a bandage might be placed around your face to minimize swelling and bruising. Small tubes may be present to draw off any excess blood or fluid.

You will be given specific instructions on how to care for the surgical site and drains, medications to apply or take orally, specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health, and when to follow up with Dr. Cohn.

Facelift Cost

How much does a Facelift cost in Long Island, NY?

The cost of a Facelift in Long Island will depend on a number of factors:

  • How long your surgery will take
  • The type of anesthesia you choose

During your consultation, you will discuss all aspects of the surgery with Dr. Cohn, so he can design a surgical plan to rejuvenate your face. From this assessment, our patient coordinator will connect with you to let you know the expected price for your surgery.
